MRI Measurement Recording Instrument

MRI (Measument Recording Instrument).

The MRI is a high-quality 3D measurement method. Measurements are computer-controlled and are therefore very accurate. Kramer is the only screw repair company in Europe to use this specialized measurement method.

Using MRI, we are able to provide you with the most accurate and trouble-free propeller possible. The machine graphically displays the pitch, rake (blade pitch), blade trajectory, blade spread, blade thickness, camber and geometry of each propeller blade. In addition, it determines what class the propeller falls into according to ISO 484/2.The classes are S , I , II, and III where class S is the highest quality.

Highly accurate measurements allow your screw to be restored to your desired class.

Problems that can be detected using the MRI

  • Performance Problems
Caused by abnormal pitch or blade area (despite the designation on the propeller itself).
  • Vibration
Induced by variations in pitch and camber of each blade are detected.(So not just vibrations caused by static or dynamic imbalance).Vibration is disruptive, absorbs power and causes damage to the driveline.
  • Cavitation
Causes erosion, noise and vibration. Consequence; damage to blade tip, blade surface, propeller hub and drive train such as bearings and will ultimately affect the overall efficiency and performance of the propeller.

Benefits of a screw analyzed by the MRI are

  • Speed increase
Because all the blades are exactly the same after repairing and checking with the MRI machine, the propeller performs better than before, this will increase the top speed.
  • Fuel consumption
Be affected in the favorable direction. The difference in consumption between Class I and Class III can be as much as 10% which ultimately benefits your wallet and the environment through reduced emissions.
  • Copying screw data
May be desirable with multiple screws. This means that the left and right-handed screw perform the same after repair. Also, any blade profile can be programmed to meet specific requirements.

The screw data of each screw is stored so that in the future the screw can be restored as before. If desired, you will receive a printed report of the measurement results before and after the repair.
